As a recent graduate of the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA, I'm interested in how biofouling communities and potential marine invasive species are transported via ships. My thesis project follows the impacts of transit and salinity on these biofouling communities.  This summer, I followed the Training Ship Golden Bear  on its voyage through the South Pacific, using ROV's and physical sampling to observe how the voyage affected micro- and macrofouling organisms attached to the hull.  When I'm not out scraping algae off ships, I work as a graduate researcher with Dr. Bill Cochlan (Estuary & Ocean Science Center) and Dr. Andy Chang (Smithsonian Environmental Research Center).
